Explanation of Vote on Senate Bill No. 2818: Strengthening the NHA

Mr. President,

Nagpapasalamat ako kay Senator Imee Marcos na siyang sponsor at author, sa Senate Committee on Urban Planning, Housing and Resettlement, at iba pang may-akda ng panukalang ito.

I vote in the affirmative and express my full support for the passage on third and final reading Senate Bill No. 2818 otherwise known as “An Act Strengthening the National Housing Authority by Extending its Corporate Term and Rationalizing its Powers, Repealing for this Purpose Presidential Decree No. 757 series of 1975.”

The NHA is at the forefront in providing socialized housing in our country. Thousands of low-income families have already benefitted from the various programs of the NHA, ensuring that marginalized Filipino households, informal settlers, and victims of natural disasters have access to affordable and decent housing.

Mahalaga rin ang papel na ginagampanan ng NHA para magbigay ng suporta at tulong sa low-income earners para makakuha ng financing para sa kanilang pinapangarap ng bahay.

Thus, it is incumbent upon the legislature to extend the corporate term and renew the NHA’s charter to continue their delivery of vital socialized housing programs, to fulfill the government’s mandate to free people from poverty, and to tackle the country’s serious housing shortage.

Thank you, Mr. President.
