SENATOR Jinggoy Ejercito Estrada has sought a Senate recognition for the landmark victory of Jessica Sanchez for being the first contestant of Filipino descent to win in the top-rating American reality talent competition America’s Got Talent.

“Sanchez fully embraces and is genuinely proud of her Filipino roots and heritage, as she dedicated and shared her victory to her fellow Filipinos. Her successes in the international stage, including a runner up finish in reality singing tilt American Idol Season 11 in 2012 and exemplary performances around the world bring honor and pride to the country,” Estrada said in his filed Resolution 138.
Sanchez, 30, born in California to a Filipina mother from Samal, Bataan, and a Mexican-American father serving in the US Navy, captivated the global audience with her powerful vocals and inspiring journey. She was declared the grand winner of AGT’s Season 20 on September 25, 2025, triumphing over nine other finalists in the popular US reality talent show.
Performing while nine months pregnant with her first child, Sanchez earned a standing ovation and the highest votes for her heartfelt rendition of “Die With A Smile.” She also took home the coveted $1 million prize.
Her victory was all the more remarkable, having first competed in AGT’s inaugural season in 2006 at just 11 years old, reaching the semifinals. Nineteen years later, she returned with renewed artistry, delivering show-stopping performances including “Beautiful Things” (Golden Buzzer), “Ordinary,” and “Golden Hour” that propelled her to the finals.
Sanchez’s triumph is widely celebrated as a story of persistence, resilience, and pride in her Filipino heritage. She has previously gained international recognition as runner-up in American Idol Season 11 in 2012 and has since showcased her talent on prestigious stages worldwide.
“The Senate recognizes Jessica Sanchez not only for her extraordinary talent but also for the honor and inspiration she brings to the Filipino people,” Estrada’s resolution read.
“Through this resolution, the Senate joins the nation in honoring Jessica Sanchez for her historic win, her unwavering dedication to her craft, and for uplifting the name of the Philippines on the global stage,” Estrada added.
