(POLITIKO) Senate President Pro Tempore Jinggoy Estrada on Monday (Aug. 5) lauded the decision of the Philippines and Germany to broaden their defense cooperation.
“By committing to broader defense cooperation, the Philippines and Germany are reinforcing their diplomatic and military ties,” he stated.
“This initiative signifies a significant step in enhancing our nation’s defense capabilities and strategic partnerships,” he added.
Estrada issued the statement after the two governments announced their commitment to revitalize defense cooperation following a meeting between Defense Sec. Gilbert Teodoro and German Federal Minister of Defense Boris Pistorious on Sunday (Aug. 4).
“Given the evolving security challenges, the defense cooperation arrangement with Germany will undeniably bolster our defense posture and staunchly uphold the rules-based international order,” said Estrada.
With Germany stating its defense engagements with countries in the Indo-Pacific region are not directed against any nation, the senator said this aligns with “our shared commitment to maintaining peace and stability in the region through cooperation and mutual respect.”
