Mister President, with the indulgence of the sponsor, I would like to co-sponsor Senate Resolution No. 649 entitled: Resolution Commending and Congratulating the Philippine Delegation to the 32nd Southeast Asian Games for ably representing the country and bringing home 58 gold, 85 silver and 117 bronze medals from the biennial meet.
We are all so proud and happy with the performance of our athletes in this 32nd SEA Games which was held for the first time in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, last May 5-17 2023 and which was participated in by 6,200 athletes from the 11 countries comprising South East Asia, in a total of 584 events in 37 sports in the biennial meet.
What a good way to close the first regular session of this 19th Congress by giving honor to our 846 remarkable athletes who have finished fifth place in the overall medal tally with a haul of 58 gold, 85 silver, 117 bronze medals, beating their accomplishment in the 31st SEA Games in 2021 and delivering their best overseas performance since the 14th SEA Games in 1987, where our Philippine contingent garnered 59 gold medals.
Worth mentioning is the amazing performance of our 58 gold medalists who have gained the highest honors in their respective events, not only for themselves, for their teams, but for the entire filipino people, as well. Bilib po kami sa inyo! Keep up the good performance.
Sa inyo pong lahat na ating mga 260 medalists, sa inyo pong lahat na 846 na pinoy SEA Games delegates, sa inyong lahat na bahagi ng coaching teams, staff at mga sponsors at supporters, sa ating Philippine Sports Commission, our congratulations to your victory. Thank you for your hardwork and dedication to giving our nation pride and honor in the field of sports, which according to nelson mandela, has the power to inspire us and unite us.
The remarkable achievements and the great performance of the philippine team in the SEA Games brought immense glory, inspiration and pride to the country, they truly deserve this commendation from the Philipine Senate.
