Co-sponsorship on Senate Resolution No. 1109 expressing profound sympathy and condolences of the Senate on the death of Mother Lily

Mr. President,

I rise today to sponsor Proposed Senate Resolution No. 1099 expressing the profound sympathy and sincere condolences of the Philippine Senate on the death of an icon in Philippine cinema, Lily Yu Chu-Monteverde, or more popularly known as Mother Lily, last August 4.

Mother Lily is a renowned film producer and a household name in the entertainment industry. As a visionary and trailblazer, she was most credited for being a star-maker by launching the careers of some of the brightest names in Philippine showbiz through Regal Entertainment—it was as if she was blessed with the Midas touch.

She also brought countless stories to life, and helped shape our entertainment industry into what it is now.

More than her prowess in producing many of the most successful Filipino films and film series that catapulted countless talents to stardom, she was a nurturing mother to many actors. Indeed, she has touched the lives of many artists.

Her death almost left a void not only in the Philippine entertainment industry, but also in the hearts of many talents, directors, producers, and workers that she has inspired. To those who knew her personally, Mother Lily was a source of unwavering support and boundless love.

Maraming salamat, Mother Lily, sa masasayang alaala, matatamis na salita, pagtitiwala, at pagmamahal sa industriyang ng pelikulang Pilipino.

Let me just state, for the record, that the daughter of Mother Lily, Roselle, who followed her mother’s footsteps and is now managing Regal Entertainment, was instrumental in drafting the Eddie Garcia Law.

Thank you, Mr. President.
