Centennial Tribute: Jinggoy Estrada seeks to honor Eddie Romero

(POLITIKO) Senator Jinggoy Estrada has filed a resolution paying tribute to the late National Artist Eddie Romero on his 100th birth anniversary.

“The legacy of Romero as a prolific writer, ambitious yet practical artist, should be recognized and celebrated, especially on July 7, 2024, which marks the 100th anniversary of his birth,” stated Estrada in his Senate Resolution No. 1039.

Romero passed away on May 28, 2013 at the age of 88.

The senator cited that Romero’s works as a film director, producer, and screenwriter, have explored the nation’s history and politics.

Romero has a number of critically acclaimed films like “Ganito Kami Noon… Paano Kayo Ngayon?,” “Kamakalawa,” “Banta ng Kahapon,” and the 13-part series “Noli Me Tangere.”

The national artist started his film career in the 1940s when the Philippines was still recovering from World War II.
