Senator Jinggoy Estrada has paid tribute to the six valiant soldiers killed during an encounter between government forces and members of the Maute terrorists in Munai, Lanao del Norte.

“I commiserate with the Armed Forces of the Philippines on the loss of six valiant men who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty,” said Estrada, chairperson of the Senate Committee on National Defense and Security, Peace, Unification and Reconciliation.

“Their unwavering commitment to safeguarding our nation cost them dearly and we honor their memory with utmost respect and gratitude,” he stated.

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) said six soldiers were killed and four others were wounded during a military operation against the Maute in Mumai last Feb. 18.

The AFP said the Maute also lost three men during the encounter.

“We must channel our sorrow into resolute action,” declared Estrada.

“I laud our Armed Forces for being relentless in pursuing the remaining members of the Dawlah Islamiyah-Maute Group who were responsible for the MSU Marawi blast in December last year,” he added.

The senator stressed that those behind the blast that left four dead “must be held responsible for their heinous acts.”

“I stand firmly behind our AFP in hunting down these remnants of evil, ensuring that they face the full force of the law,” he said.
