Frontline Heroes: Barangay Tanods Deserve P1,000 Monthly Hazard Pay – Jinggoy

(POLITIKO) Senator Jinggoy Estrada renewed his call to increase the monthly hazard pay of barangay tanods to P1,000, just as the country concluded the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections on Monday, Oct. 30.

Estrada filed a bill seeking to grant P1,000 monthly hazard pay to the appointed barangay tanod brigades. This will be sourced from the budget of the Department of Interior and Local Government during the first implementation, and subsequently from the budget of the local government units.

Estrada, who served as San Juan mayor for 30 years becoming senator, said barangay tanods only get a measly honoraria or allowance of P600 monthly.

“Barangay tanod brigades are community workers that need protection. This proposed measure acknowledges their significant contribution in maintaining peace and order in their locality by providing them with incentives while they continue to carry out official tasks,” Estrada said.

“As frontliners, they should receive adequate support and treatment from the government. There is no doubt that they deserve to be given such incentive,” he added.
