(JOURNAL NEWS) Senator Jinggoy Ejercito Estrada presided over the continuation of the public hearing of the Committee on Labor, Employment, and Human Resources Development on the Eddie Garcia bill on Wednesday, September 27, 2023.
Estrada stated that the committee aims to conclude the hearing on the measure which seeks to establish occupational safety and health standards for workers and talents in the movie, television and radio entertainment industry.
The committee intends to submit the committee report to the plenary at the soonest possible time.
Sen. Robinhood Padilla who was present during the hearing expressed hope the proposed Eddie Garcia Act would address the issues besetting the entertainment industry.
The said bill is instituting policies for the welfare of workers in the entertainment industry.
Just like Estrada, Padilla, also an actor, lamented the lack of a law recognizing the unique nature of the sector.
“I hope there would be no more finger-pointing after this, and that this would result in the entertainment industry having one voice,” Padilla said.
