(ABANTE) Pag-aaralan pang mabuti ng Senate Committee on National Defense and Security ang panukala ng Department of Finance (DOF) na nagrereporma sa pensyon system sa military and uniformed personnel (MUP).
Isinusulong ng economic managers ng administrasyon na mag-contribute ang mga nasa active service ng limang porsyento ng kanilang buwanang sweldo sa kanilang retirement fund sa unang tatlong unang taon habang ang mga bagong pasok ay siyam na porsyento ng kanilang basic salary at longevity pay.
Sa proposal ng pamahalaan, dadagdagan ng estado ang kontribusyon ng MUP para maabot ang monthly premium sa kabuuang 21 porsyento o 16 porsyento ng mga nasa active service at 12 porsyento naman sa mga bagong pasok sa serbisyo.
“As chairperson of the Senate Committee on National Defense and Security and a staunch advocate for the welfare of our brave servicemen and women, I believe we must carefully consider and discuss this crucial issue,” ayon kay Sen. Jinggoy Ejercito Estrada.
“Kailangan na itong pag-usapan ngunit hindi dapat minamadali. Kailangang makahanap tayo ng isang sistema na katanggap-tanggap sa lahat,” dagdag niya.
Binigyang-diin pa ni Estrada na inalaan ng MUPs ang kanilang buhay sa pagsilbi at proteksyon para sa bayan.
“But we also cannot turn a blind eye to the pressing concerns surrounding their pension system which calls for immediate and comprehensive reform,” saad ni Estrada.
“However, we must ensure that our MUP is provided with the dignified retirement they deserve. We must consider various aspects and find sustainable ways to ensure that our pension obligations are met without compromising the stability of our economy,” diin pa niya. (Dindo Matining)
