(POLITIKO) Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim took time off from his packed schedule Wednesday (March 1) to see an old friend, former President Joseph Estrada, in Makati City.

Senator Jinggoy Estrada said his father and Anwar had a private dinner with him, former Trade Secretary Jose Pardo and the lawmaker’s brother, Jude.

Jinggoy described the meeting between his father and Anwar as “great friends just pick(ing) up where they left off.”

“It’s been five years since former President Joseph Ejercito Estrada last saw his friend, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. The two are seen catching up and trying to pick up where they left off when they last saw each other in September 2018 when the former Philippine president, then Manila mayor, hosted a dinner for Anwar at the Manila Hotel,” the senator said.

Jinggoy said the friendship between his father and Anwar started when Estrada was vice president and the Malaysian prime minister was still deputy prime minister.

Anwar is in Manila until Thursday (March 2) for a two-day official visit. He is the first head of government to travel to the country under the Marcos administration.
