I join my distinguished colleagues in expressing support to the ad interim appointment of Benjamin Estoista Diokno as Secretary of the Department of Finance.
His stellar reputation in the field of fiscal management and public finance is well known, if not legendary. Very few people can boast of earning the trust and confidence of multiple administrations to take the helm of important Cabinet posts like our appointee. He served as Budget Secretary during the administration of my father, former President Joseph Estrada. He also served during the administration of President Rodrigo Duterte as DBM Secretary and Governor of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas. Now, he is again entrusted by another sitting Chief Executive, President Marcos, Jr. to head the Finance Department.
Such is the brilliance and caliber of Ben Diokno. Kung babaliktarin natin ang kanyang apelyido, No-Diok (No Joke). Hindi talaga matatawaran ang kanyang husay at galing. In the aftermath of the global crisis that is Covid-19, he is instrumental in the crafting and implementing of innovative and bold measures to support economic resilience and recovery. We are certain that with him in the elite circle of economic managers, we can look forward to a more solid footing and pre-pandemic resurgence sooner rather than later.
