I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude for allowing me to be part of the annual Climate Change Consciousness Week. The past two years have proven to be one of the most difficult challenges we have faced in our lifetime. Yet, it also created opportunities and perspectives that will be beneficial in the future. A recent report from the US-based think-tank World Resources Institute said that climate-friendly industries offer work and better wages during the pandemic and investing in green investments can be an important part of recovery packages.I find it fortunate that Republic Act 10771 otherwise known as the Green Jobs Act which I principally authored and enacted during the 16th Congress is already in place. However, six years have passed; the creation of more green jobs – those employment opportunities that contribute to preserving or restoring the quality of the environment be it in the agriculture industry or services sector — has yet to be fully implemented.
