For their gallant performances in their respective disciplines and for showcasing the best attributes of Filipinos on the international sports stage, Senator Jinggoy Ejercito Estrada is seeking the Senate’s commendation of the Philippine contingent to the 33rd Southeast Asian Games in Thailand.
The largest-ever Philippine delegation to the SEA Games finished sixth overall and placed fourth in total medal haul with 277 medals, behind Thailand, Indonesia, and Vietnam.
“This representation has filed proposed Senate Resolution No. 210, commending and congratulating the Philippine contingent to the 33rd SEA Games for winning 50 gold, 73 silver, and 154 bronze medals. At the proper time, this representation wishes to sponsor this resolution and hopes that this Chamber will adopt the same. Saludo po ako sa mga atletang Filipino,” Estrada said during Monday’s plenary session.
The nation celebrated a string of historic victories across 54 sports contested by Filipino athletes in Bangkok and Chonburi from December 9 to 20, 2025.
Estrada highlighted tennis star Alex Eala, who ended a 26-year drought in women’s singles tennis with a gold-medal finish, and Olympian EJ Obiena, who set a new regional record in pole vault to clinch his fourth consecutive SEA Games gold.
In beach volleyball, Sisi Rondina, Bernadeth Pons, Dij Rodriguez, and Sunny Villapando ended Thailand’s two-decade reign, while the Philippine Women’s National Football Team captured its first-ever SEA Games gold.
Basketball supremacy was reaffirmed as Gilas Pilipinas secured its 20th men’s championship title, while the women’s squad successfully reclaimed the crown. The Blu Boys and Blu Girls completed a golden sweep in softball, while 11-year-old Mazel Paris Alegado made history as the youngest Filipino gold medalist in SEA Games history after triumphing in skateboarding.
Swimmer Kayla Noelle Sanchez emerged as one of the most decorated athletes with three gold and five silver medals, while weightlifter Albert Ian Delos Santos reset his own world junior record with a 186-kilogram lift in the clean and jerk event. These achievements underscored the resilience, talent, and excellence of Filipino athletes on the international stage.
“Behind every medal is a story of years of training, quiet sacrifices, and unwavering belief,” Estrada said. “Our athletes did not just win medals—they inspired a nation.”
Estrada lauded the athletes’ grit, discipline, and sportsmanship, saying their victories “showcase the best of Filipino talent and resilience before the international sports stage.”
The resolution underscores the Senate’s commitment to recognizing Filipino athletes whose achievements bring honor to the country. “Our athletes are not only medal winners—they are flag-bearers of national pride and an inspiration for future generations,” Estrada emphasized.
