Justice has been served. I am deeply elated by the news that the Supreme Court has dismissed the appeal of Spouses Marzan and affirmed the decision of the lower court finding them guilty of serious illegal detention of their former kasambahay, Bonita Baran.
Si Bonita Baran po ay isa sa mga dahilan kung bakit ipinaglaban at sinikap natin na ipasa ang Batas Kasambahay. Ang batas na ito ay nagbigay sa mga kasambahay katulad ni Bonita ng lakas upang itaguyod at ipaglaban ang kanilang karapatan at kapakanan. Bonita suffered years of physical and mental abuse from her employers. Plinantsa pa ang kanyang mukha kaya siya ay halos mabulag na. Napakarami ring bakas ng sugat at pambubugbog ang kanyang katawan. When she sought the assistance of my Office back in 2012, talaga namang nanlumo ako nang makita ko siya. As Chairman of the Senate Committee on Labor, I immediately conducted a Senate investigation on her plight and sought the assistance of the NBI and the PNP.
Buhay ang hustisya sa ating bansa. I am very happy on the outcome of Bonita’s case, and the highest court of the land upheld the rights and dignity of the kasambahay. Panalo po ito ng masang Pilipino.
Nawa ang kaso ni Bonita na ang maging maging huling kuwento ng pang-aabuso, pang-aapi at pangma-maltrato sa ating mga kasambahay.
